The KMT Factor

Event management supremos Kelvin and Mary Tan are the force behind KMT Events, as the name suggests.

KMT Events is a premier event management boutique providing a full range of planning, production and design services.  “We believe events are special occasions that provides lasting impressions.  An incredible event starts with an incredible team, one with vision, experience and passion.”

Singapore-born Kelvin and the more outgoing and cosmopolitan Mary met in the UK during their university years when they were studying to become IT professionals.  Both excelled in their chosen fields before turning their skills to event management.  The career change was initiated by Mary who, in her own words, “is a mixture of cultural backgrounds.”  Her heritage stems from Hong Kong with some Welsh and a dash of the Caribbean, due to where she lived prior to Australia.

The dynamic duo took over an event management franchise in 2011 and their business saw a meteoric rise to recognition as they created and produced momentous and glamorous occasions with flair and panache and more importantly, according to deadline and budget.  Some of their more significant projects include a 40th anniversary gala dinner at Windsor Hotel, a gala dinner for 800 people at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and an annual IT conference held in Melbourne and Perth.

With an extensive IT background, project management, problem solving and analytical skills, KMT offers creative and result-oriented solutions to the most complex and high-profile bespoke events.  “We pride ourselves in responding to clients’ needs, advising and guiding them through the cycle of the event – from initial concept to the final wrap-up, doing as much or as little as the client needs.”

Mary strongly believes in connecting and building relationships, networking with her heart and mind, hence her involvement in several associations.  She is the current president of the Chinese Professional and Business Association (CPBA) and a member of the Australian Chinese Events Committee (ACEC).  She was also the vice president of the Caribbean Association of Victoria (CaribVic).

Kelvin and Mary travel extensively, enjoying the finer things in life together.  It can be said that wherever Kelvin or Mary is, the other half is never far away.  Despite manic schedules and working closely together, they maintain a healthy and happy marriage and family life.  Mary fondly refers to Kelvin as her ‘partner in crime’.

Their take on life?  “Be happy, enjoy what you do – life is too short.”
